<p>Dr. Atkins came up with new ideas, his Atkins diet, about the nature of weight gain. He held that saturated fats weren&#8217;t as bad as people claim. Carbohydrates, found in potatoes, and breads, were the real problem. In Atkins theory eating too little fat make things even worse. He pointed to all the low-fat foods that were high in carbohydrates. That meant people on a diet often ate foods that were worse than they normally ate.</p>
<p>The Atkins diet shifts the focus. He shifts dieters&#8217; metabolism to burn body fats by cutting out carbohydrates from their diets. That&#8217;s the goal of weight loss. It&#8217;s not just a matter of eating less. Dr. Atkins held that your diet could actually help you burn calories. In fact Atkins cited a study that claimed the body would burn an extra 950 calories on his diet. That sounded good but it wasn&#8217;t true.</p>
<p>Dr. Atkins also touted the positive influence this Atkins diet could have on people with type 2 diabetes. Being overweight is generally considered the major cause for type 2 diabetes. Weight loss associated with the Atkins diet, as with any diet, would therefore help people manage type 2 diabetes. But the Atkins diet is also low in carbohydrates, which must be avoided with type 2 diabetes regardless of caloric intake, so by means of this aspect of the diet Atkins claimed those who suffer type 2 diabetes would no longer need medication such as insulin. But that&#8217;s counter to the prevailing medical theories regarding type 2 diabetes which, although recommending that lowered intake of carbohydrates and weight loss help manage diabetes, ascribe no causal relationship between carbohydrates and type 2 diabetes.</p>
<p>What steps does one take to follow the Atkins diet? It consists of four steps or phases which are induction, ongoing weight loss, pre-maintenance and lifetime maintenance. The details of the induction phase is as follows.</p>
<p>The first phase of the Atkins diet, Induction, is like the boot camp for the diet. Atkins is flexible as to the time period – but recommends two weeks. During this phase carbohydrates are severely limited – only up to 20 grams per day. The result of this phase should be ketosis, a metabolic reaction by which the body converts stored fat into fatty acids, generally prompted by a lack of glucose. Weight loss during this phase can be extreme – some Atkins followers reported losses of 5-10 pounds a week.</p>
<p>The other Atkins diet phases are generally used for determining the levels of carbohydrates ideal for losing weight and for maintaining a standard weight – not gaining weight. The diet lost popularity after Dr. Atkins died, but it&#8217;s still popular.</p>

This means that you are not choosing your food in the dark—you have some idea what these foods can do to your waistline.  Any weight loss program that improves your knowledge of nutrition should be considered beneficial. </p>
<p>Choosing a weight loss program is an extremely personal decision, one that should not be taken lightly.  You will have to weigh the benefits and drawbacks of the Weight Watchers program in order to decide whether it&#8217;s the right plan for you. As a personal trainer, I tend to be skeptical of any method of weight loss that does not follow traditional guidelines. You know the drill, eat less and exercise more. However, I had heard so many exciting claims about colon cleansing and weight loss, I decided to uncover the truth.</p>
<p>First, let&#8217;s look at the fundamentals of weight loss. It really isn&#8217;t &#8220;rocket science&#8221;. Their are 3500 calories in a pound of body fat. If an individual consumes fewer calories than their body requires, they will lose weight.</p>
<p>Simple, right?</p>
<p>So, what do calories have to do with colon cleansing weight loss? Well, in my research I discovered that it was not unusual for individuals to lose 10-15 pounds in 7-10 days while colon cleansing!</p>
<p>Gadzooks!</p>
<p>So, do the math. An individual would have to be on a MEGA restrictive diet to experience weight loss of that magnitude. The individuals that I discovered were not on any specific type of diet.</p>
<p>Most were not on a diet AT ALL! So, how did they lose that much weight?</p>
<p>Simple. During a colon cleansing, the colon is able to rid itself of accumulated fecal matter. This impacted matter builds up on the walls of the colon over time.</p>
<p>The amount that can accumulate can be mind boggling. It is reported that an autopsy on the late Elvis Presly, revealed that his colon weighed 60 Pounds!</p>
<p>A healthy colon should weigh about 5 pounds.</p>
<p>Colon cleansing weight loss is not fat loss, but the benefits of removing impacted fecal matter are great. Individuals dramatically improve  energy levels, quality of sleep, overall vitality and quality of life.</p>
<p>The key is to cleanse often enough to prevent the accumulation of waste. Depending on what your doctor advises, once every 90 days should be adequate.</p>
<p>So, is colon cleansing right for you?</p>

<p>I&#8217;m not going to tell you that it&#8217;s easy to break old habits and start new ones.  If it were easy, there wouldn&#8217;t be a billion dollar industry built around just weight loss.  That figure alone should suggest to you that something is afoot. (What can I say?  I like Sherlock Holmes.)</p>

<p>What I am going to suggest to you is that you stop taking losing weight so seriously.  I&#8217;m sure that it&#8217;s a safe bet that if you look back at most of the changes you made in your life, you&#8217;ll see that you didn&#8217;t make a big deal out of them.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The change could have been something as simple as choosing another route to go to work or maybe changing your brand of toothpaste.  Nothing life changing about those decisions.  And even though the benefits from losing that extra weight may be life changing, the decision to make the change doesn&#8217;t have to be.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Truth be told, everything in life is simple.   It&#8217;s when we try to live life that we make it hard.   </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>So what should you do about trying to lose weight?  The answer to that is simple.  Simply keep it simple.  The harder you try, the harder it becomes.  When you stop stressing over every little aspect of losing weight you are going to find that something marvelous starts to happen.  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Bit by bit, you&#8217;ll actually find yourself doing the things necessary for you to lose weight.  You may start out by just drinking more water.  You may decide to go for a long walk.  You may decide to go with a salad instead of a burger for lunch.  You may even find yourself following that diet and exercise plan you laid out your hard earned cash for.  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Whenever it happens, it is going to be because the fate of the world no longer rest on you following every minute aspect of your weight loss plan.  Just like a seed sprouting from the soil, you&#8217;ll gradually grow into doing all the things that stressed you out before.  And when that happens, you&#8217;ll wonder what the whole fuss was about anyway.</p>

It&#8217;s a low-carb diet created by Robert Atkins. He had gained a great deal of weight while he attended medical school. Atkins read about a low-carb diet in one of his medical journals. He decided to improve it and release it under his name.</p>
<p> Dr. Atkins had rather radical theories about the nature of weight gain as expressed in the Atkins diet. First, he dismissed the idea that saturated fats were bad. The carbohydrates are the culprits. In Atkins theory eating too little fat make things even worse. He pointed to all the low-fat foods that were high in carbohydrates. Eating a low-fat version of foods was actually less healthy. </p>
<p> The Atkins diet changes this. He shifts dieters&#8217; metabolism to burn body fats by cutting out carbohydrates from their diets. That&#8217;s the goal of weight loss. Atkins flipped the equation from lowering caloric intake. Now it was all about what your diet can help you burn. The Atkins diet supposedly burned an extra 950 calories everyday. But the claims were not true.</p>
<p> The Atkins diet also could help people with type 2 diabetes.. Type 2 diabetes is most often associated with obesity. So in general any diet that helps decrease weight will help address type 2 diabetes. But the Atkins diet is also low in carbohydrates, which must be avoided with type 2 diabetes regardless of caloric intake, so by means of this aspect of the diet Atkins claimed those who suffer type 2 diabetes would no longer need medication such as insulin. The medical world, in general, disagrees with Atkins on this point. They agree lower carbohydrates help with type 2 diabetes, but there is no proof that carbohydrates cause the disease.</p>
<p> What steps does one take to follow the Atkins diet? It consists of four steps or phases which are induction, ongoing weight loss, pre-maintenance and lifetime maintenance. Here are more details of Induction which is the most crucial of the phases.</p>
<p> The first phase of the Atkins diet, Induction, is like the boot camp for the diet. Atkins is flexible as to the time period – but recommends two weeks. Carbohydrates are nearly removed entirely from the diet, only 15-20 grams can be consumed each day. The lack of carbohydrates will prompt the body to convert fat into fatty acids for fuel – a process known as ketosis. During this phase weight loss can reach as much as 10 pounds per week.</p>
<p> The other Atkins diet phases are generally used for determining the levels of carbohydrates ideal for losing weight and for maintaining a standard weight – not gaining weight. Dr. Atkins himself died of complications of increased fat intake in his diet, which is something to keep in mind when choosing this diet.           </p>
