The Overnight Weight Loss Myth

Obesity has become increasingly common especially among teenagers. Other than our life which revolves around technology which gives no exercise whatsoever, a major contribution to this trend is made by the excessive consumption of fast food. Whenever we have no time, which is the case usually we end up eating junk food which is loaded with saturated fats. Their fiber content is low, which in turn makes us hungry very soon.

Moreover the aerated drinks that we drink have empty calories that mean they only have refined sugar and no nutritional value. However sometimes overeating and genetics can be the reason of a person being overweight. Also as we grow old, the metabolism rate slows down thus we cannot burn as many calories as we consume.

Weight loss can be attributed to a number of factors. Some easily controllable like calorie intake, lifestyle, weight and routines and others difficult to control like age, sex, health and stress levels.

Contrary to popular belief, being overweight is not always unhealthy. Researches have shown that people who are a bit overweight have a longer life expectancy as compared to people with normal weight.

There is no way to lose weight in one day. If people are telling you otherwise they are fooling you. The best way to lose weight is still the traditional diet control and exercise.

The rate of weight loss is also dependent on the way you gained it. If you gained the weight quickly, you develop loose skin which can only be surgically removed.

If you go to a nutritionist they will give you a low calorie diet to follow and an exercise plan customized to your lifestyle and needs. This would usually not consist of artificial dietary supplements or exercise machine.
An entire day’s diet should be balanced and must have foods from all groups of the food pyramid. This can be broadly classified into two parts. Fat can come from mono and poly saturated food sources. They are high in calorie and low in fiber and thus must be consumed in fewer amounts during a weight loss program.

The other group consists of carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and fiber. These are obtained from foods like rice and oats potatoes cereals. However in this group carbohydrates should be consumed in less quantity as they are stored as fat in the body. Thus the consumption of potatoes should be reduced. On the other hand fruits and vegetables are high in fiber, phytochemicals, enzymes and micronutrients that are essential for a healthy diet and these must be eaten in larger quantities.

Food plans do not make you starve they just make you smarter in choosing your food to improve your calorie intake. It makes your diet balanced and gives you better nutrition. Thus you need not eat less and torture yourself in order to loose weight.

A good exercise plan should be a mix of cardiovascular and weight training exercises. This helps burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio that will increase ones metabolism and lose weight.

A lot of times your body gets immune to a particular diet. You might be loosing weight on a particular diet and then you stop loosing weight. You should consult a doctor who will suggest you a diet which is healthy for you and will help you lose weight and can also help you out of this situation.

A healthy body will in turn lead to a more productive and happier life.
